Walt Disney in the same year consider first to make Nightmare before Christmas into either a short film or a 30 mins TV specail, this didn't eventuate. Though Tim Burton had never forgot about the Nightmare before Christmas project and returned to the project in 1990, this is when he made a development deal with Disney.

Production started in July 1991 in San Francisco. Disney release the film under the Touchstone Pictures banner as they thought the movie was too dary and scary for Kids.

It tells the story of Jack Skellington, a being from Halloween Town who opens a portal to Christmas Town and decides to celebrate the holiday, with some dastardly and comical consequences.
